Impressions:
Order placed on April 28 th,
2016, received on April 30th, 2016. Packaging was well done, thickly
wrapped in bubble-wrap without any sign of damage in transit. I removed the
bulb from one of a pair of my tripod mounted lights and inserted the supplied
LED bulb. The new bulb is approximately (¼ inch or 6.35 mm) taller than the
original bulb so the screw on cover would not go back on. This is not an issue in my application,
so I proceeded to plug the device in and hit the power switch. WOW! I was immediately
surprised with the blast of light that came out of the bulb. The light is a
nice white color and very strong in intensity. The original Halogen bulbs I use have a yellowish light and are little more than candlelight in
comparison. In the following photographs below, I illustrate the same glass
pendant illuminated by a single light source in a dark room with no other
illumination. There is also a shot of the same piece lit with 2 of the bulbs, one on each side of the tripod at a distance of about 1.5 feet. Camera used is a Nikon CoolpixL100, set to Macro zoom mode, no other filters or exposure settings.
The bulbs are heavy in comparison to the halogen bulbs. They possess
a thick ceramic socket area and aluminum radiator. I think that this beefier
construction help the bulbs run cooler. After a few seconds the halogen
bulbs burn you if you touch them, the LED bulb is warm to the
touch after 30 minutes.

As you can clearly see these bulbs provide
a brilliant white light that truly brought out the beauty of the glass piece I
wished to photograph. The piece is fumed with gold, so it has a rosy pink hue and a brilliant gold reflection when light reflects off of it. These bulbs are rated for 30,000 hours of continuous use
and I can’t imagine ever going back to the halogen bulbs for any photographic
projects. There may be applications where a yellowish soft light is applicable,
but in my glassblowing, I need a clean white light to truly show the brilliance
and colors reflected in and off of a piece. I have previously used filter settings in the digital Camera to compensate for the bulbs I had used and also used a 150 watt spotlight for additional lighting..
I will highly recommend these bulbs to
anyone needing an efficient bright source of lighting whether its under your
kitchen cabinets, a spotlight in a display case, or photography related
lighting applications. Care should be taken in applications or fixtures where
the slightly taller height would prevent covers from being replaced but it was
not an issue in my application, and in fact, the taller height makes removing
the bulb a lot easier, (a rubber pad and kitchen tongs were required to remove
the original bulbs.)
